Experience


Michelle has 13 years' experience advising on all aspects of planning, highways and compulsory purchase law and has advised on all types of development including large mixed use schemes, housing developments, energy, minerals and waste (including nuclear waste) and large infrastructure projects.

Michelle has advised clients in both the private sector and has held a senior position at Cumbria County Council where she was the sole planning solicitor and was in charge of planning, highways, procurement, commercial, governance, environmental and property teams.

Michelle's recent experience includes:

  • Advising Cumbria County Council on the planning application for the development of a new underground metallurgical coal mine and associated development.  She advised on the environmental statement and EIA process, negotiated and drafted the s106 Agreement,   provided highways advice and advised on the need for a financial bond to secure restoration of the site.

  • Advising Homes England on its proposals to forward fund a link road and additional infrastructure to unlock and deliver 5,000 new homes and 35 hectares of employment land in the allocation area.

  • Advising Network Rail on the CPOs to deliver a modernised and extended shopping centre, improvements to critical road infrastructure, a new high street, 6700 new homes, commercial development, improved community facilities, a new, additional Brent Cross West Thameslink station and associated infrastructure works to provide pedestrian, cycling and vehicle links across the railway, and replace outdated waste and freight facilities. Michelle advised Network Rail on the Deed of Undertaking and asset protections required.
